It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of a great veteran’s advocate and my good friend, Arthur Bernklau. Art passed away last week.

A Marine's Marine, Art spearheaded the passage of Senate Bill §3421 which affects over 600,000 disabled and injured veterans who fight the VA for their disability benefits. He is survived by his wife Nina Gervais Bernklau, his two (grown) children Allen and Dina, and three grandsons Cody, Jesse, and Wyatt.

The Florida Library Association 2010 Annual Conference will be presenting “Thinking Outside the Book” April 7 - 9 at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando, FL. Unglorious War will be on display at the conference and a copy of the book will be given away as a door prize.

There was a rally in front of the West Los Angeles Veteran's Hospital on Wilshire Blvd. today.  Many organizations were there protesting the government land grab of the grounds of the hospital.  The land was deeded to veterans in the 1880s and since the 1980s, the government has been trying to find a way to sell the land because it is worth millions.  The same is true with the Sepulveda Hospital in the San Fernando Valley.  The following organizations were there: Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 83, Banished Veterans and Vietnam Veterans Against the War.

Ari David, Candidate for the 30th Congressional District in 2010 was also there to lend his support.  He will be running for the seat currently held by Henry Waxman.  He can be reached at 310-456-3202.  Vietnam Veterans Against the War's website is www.vvaw.org and Banished Veterans can be contacted at www.banishedveterans.com.

About 50 people turned out and carried signs.  Local people driving by blew their horns in support of our efforts.  There will be another rally in the near future.  Check back for any updates.

The book signing at the Dollar Bookstore in Burbank was very successful and even bigger than the first signing at The God Shop!  Cookies and refreshments were served and a good time was had by all that stopped by.  Thank you to everyone that helped to make the signing a success!

Sorry for the lack of updates... a computer problem that needed a complete wipe and re-install has kept me away for a little while.  Here's a poem I ran accross the other day and felt it was appropriate.

February 1, 2008 - Suggestion to add sample chapters

A suggestion was made to Maxine to add another subsection which is adding certain chapters of the book for previewing.  The suggestion has been considered and the chapters are in the process of being selected. Look for another page to be added to the menu called 'excerpt.'

January 31, 32008 - Added More Pages

Three new pages were added today as well as a lot of content updates for many of the original pages.  Still need to consolidate the HTML so there aren't multiple pages that need to be edited with each update.  Also added a new photo to the "Photos" page.  Added a PayPal donation button, may remove later.

January 26, 2008 - Maxine's First Post

Set up web hosting and will be launching web page before the first of February.  The photo-shoot for the cover of the book is set for February 6, 2008.  Make-up and hair will be done by Tracey Gionvanelli, a professional make-up and hairstylist.  Nails by Anna and waxing by Luba.

 January 23, 2008 - More Tweaks

Modified the "title" on each page to match the actual page being viewed and added a comment in the news section.  Looking into a more static page with frames rather than the multiple page format to prevent the repetitive editing that I currently do.  Debating on removing the "Ads" section on the left column.

January 22, 2008 - A Few Changes

Changed the Excerpt page to a Synopsis page and changed the corner image to match the picture on the back of the book.
